The Highlight of My Spring

The STRIDE retreat was the highlight of this spring for me. The opportunity to attend the retreat came at a time when I was looking for a retreat to go on. This retreat did not disappoint and I am so glad that the Holy Spirit was with us throughout the weekend.

About 40 students & young adults from MA, CT and RI attended the Spring Retreat held in RI. It was sponsored by SNEC Youth and STRIDE.

The theme of the weekend was“ The Day Death Died.” This theme was very powerful as we studied Christ’s mission on Earth to redeem humanity and overcome death. The many opportunities to reflect on the daily messages were beneficial as we heard from one other and how the messages resonated in everyone’s life. Throughout the retreat, I met many individuals with different interests and pursuits that were all seeking to develop a closer walk with God. The united prayer and morning walk were especially appreciated as I learned more about taking time to seek God early in the morning and praying with others.

My favorite part of the retreat was the impromptu bible study we had on Saturday night when we could have been doing other after Sabbath activities. Instead, the Spirit led us into a study of Christ’s Second Coming and the resurrection. Many of us had different understandings of the resurrection, however, we took the time to search scripture to see what the bible revealed about it. This was beneficial to me because I learned where in the bible talks about the details of the resurrection. I appreciated the safe and welcoming environment that STRIDE fostered which allowed me to feel comfortable asking questions about things I was not clear on in the bible. Also, many of the other people at the retreat contributed to a vibrant discussion about the resurrection.

I left the retreat feeling invigorated and better equipped to continue my walk with God. Specifically, it led me to study the New Testament more. Also, we did not leave empty handed. Aside from the knowledge we gained from the studies and speakers, we also received a book called “Passion of the Ages” by E. G. White from the SNEC Youth Department. Through this book, I am gaining a deeper understanding of Christ’s mission on Earth. The biblical truth that I seek to share is that I serve a risen Savior who made the ultimate sacrifice out of love for humankind. God does not want any of His beloved children to be lost, but for us all to accept Him as our loving Savior.
